The Aztec civilization is a location introduced in Season 1 of Angel's Friends. It was in this ancient human civilization that Tyco and Sai fought and fell in love, committing the first sacrilege by kissing and breaking the V.E.T.O.'s scales. Their sacrilege led to the destruction of a city in the Aztec civilization.

Overview[]

Historically, the Aztecs were a mesoamerican culture that flourished in central Mexico from 1300 to 1521. Aztec culture was organized into city-states (altepetl), some of which allied to form political confederations or empires. The Aztec Empire was a confederation of three city-states established in 1427: Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Tlacopan. The empire expanded through trade and military conquest, reaching its height in 1519, just before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadores. [1]

Angel's Friends[]

Series[]

The Aztec civilization first appears in the eighth episode of the first season of Angel's Friends. Arkhan and Temptel go to the library archives to find out what would happen when an angel and a devil fall in love. Malachia, who was sent by Reina disguised as a librarian, hands them a book that tells the legend of the angel Tyco and the devil Sai. According to the legend, Tyco and Sai were enemies who fought constantly but were so evenly matched that neither could defeat the other. They eventually fell in love and kissed, committing a sacrilege that destroyed the civilization they lived in.

In episode thirteen, Sulfus and Raf have fallen into a trap set by Reina in which they are transported to a mysterious location through the challenge room. They are able to escape their cell and explore the area, running into a labyrinth that contains murals depicting the story of Tyco and Sai and inspired by ancient Aztec art. The same murals reappear in episode fourteen.

In episode twenty-five, Raf and Sulfus fall into another one of Reina's trap; this time, the Orb of Destiny sends them back in time to a tropical rainforest in the Aztec civilization. Raf and Sulfus spend time with each other exploring their surroundings and spot an ancient city. They also come across Tyco and Sai, who are both engaging in intense combat before confessing their love to one another. In episode twenty-six, they follow Tyco and Sai into the city, where the local terrestrials are able to see the pair in their immortal forms and the two kiss, committing the first sacrilege. Sulfus crashes into Raf after a heated argument and she lands on top of a pyramid, where the two kiss, just like Tyco and Sai, repeating the sacrilege. In episode twenty-seven, after Tyco and Sai's kiss, the land begins to shake and the birds and terrestrials panic as the buildings begin to crumble. The earthquake destroys the city, which collapses into the gorge.

Movie[]

In Angel's Friends: Between Dream and Reality, flashbacks of Tyco and Sai show them kissing in the rainforest of the Aztec civilization.

Locations[]

Tropical Rainforest[]

The tropical rainforest is where Raf and Sulfus first land after being transported by the Orb of Destiny and where they first see Tyco and Sai fighting. It is also were Sai confesses her romantic feelings to Tyco.

The rainforest is full of tropical plants and dense vegetation. There is also a waterfall and a river.

City[]

The city is where Tyco and Sulfus both follow Sai and Raf respectively and where both sacrilegious kisses take place.

The city is located in the middle of a gorge. Tall pyramids inspired by Aztec architecture sit on several cliffs, with rope bridges connecting the cliffs. The city was inhabited by local terrestrials who perished as a result of the earthquake that destroyed the city.

Pyramid[]

An Aztec pyramid is depicted in the book given to Arkhan and Temptel by Malachia. According to the book, this is where Tyco and Sai's sacrilege took place.

The pyramid is several stories high with a long staircase leading to the temple sitting on the top. In the book, the pyramid appears intact before the kiss and in ruins after.
